Hot Cupping Therapy

A therapy in which a jar is placed onto the skin's surface to cause local congestion through the removal of air in the jar. This method promotes free flow Chi through the body to balance Ying-Yang and diminishes swelling and pains.

The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system. Cupping can help to align and relax qi, as well as target more specific maladies. By targeting the meridian channels, cupping strives to 'open' these channels. Paths through which life energy flows freely throughout the body, through all tissues and organs.

FAQs

  • Is cupping painful?

In the hands of an expert therapist, cupping is not painful and most patients are likely to experience only a slight pinching sensation. However, patients opting for wet therapy could feel a little pain when the therapist makes tiny cuts on the skin to allow the elimination of toxic blood and fluids from the body.

To counter this pain, patients can request for local anesthesia. You may find our article on the Side Effects of Cupping interesting.

  • How long are cups applied for in cupping therapy?

Depending on your body and condition, cups may be placed on your skin for up to ten minutes. They may either stay in place for that time, or the practitioner will remove them and place them on another location of your body.

  • How early should I arrive for my therapy?

New clients should arrive 10 minutes prior to their massage to fill out paperwork and meet with their therapist prior to their treatment.

Returning clients should arrive 5 minutes prior to their session.

  • How much water should I drink?

If you’re the type of person who keeps themselves properly hydrated in the first place, you don’t really need to drink extra water after your massage. If you don’t drink enough water on a daily basis, you should start! After all massage appointments, we supply my clients with bottled water to take home.
